FREEDOM OF INFORMATION

How much will it cost me to make a Freedom of Information request?

Under The Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004, Limavady Borough Council will not charge for production of information resulting from a Freedom of Information request unless it is likely to cost more than £450 to retrieve and extract the relevant information.

If the request is likely to cost more than £450 to fulfill, the applicant will be informed and sent a "Fees Notice" detailing the estimated costs involved in producing the information. This is to enable the applicant to decided whether they want to proceed with their request or amend their request.

In preparing the estimate of costs the Council will only take account of costs it reasonably expects to incur in relation to determining whether the Council holds the information, locating the information, retrieving the information and extracting the information from relevant documents.

For requests costing less than £450 the Council may decide to charge "disbursement costs". These costs relate to reproducing documents (eg photocopying), or for postage, or for producing the information in a particular manner (eg on CD Rom).
