"Hands Off My Friend" Campaign
Have you been a victim of hate crime, or witnessed a hate-driven incident? Do you know someone who has been persecuted because of their religion, sexuality, politics, ethnicity or because they are disabled? Limavady Borough Council is supporting the “Hands off My Friend” Hate Crime reporting campaign.
A hate crime / incident is defined as:
“Any crime / incident which is perceived by the victim or any other person to be due to a person’s ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, political opinion or disability.”
“Hands off My Friend” will improve confidence and satisfaction amongst victims and witnesses of hate crime. Their experience will be treated seriously and actioned.
The campaign provides a number of ways to report a hate incident if you do not want to contact the police directly. There's a free phone number 08000920788 you can call and a web site www.handsoffmyfriend.org reporting option.
Any individual can report a hate crime or incident to a 3rd party reporting agency and a list of these are on the website. These agencies will report the crime on behalf of the victim.
If you want to report a hate crime / incident you can contact the Council's Good Relations Officer, Patricia Cameron, and she will report the crime or incident on your behalf. You do not have to give your contact details if you wish to remain anonymous.
For further information on the campaign or to report a hate crime / incident contact Patricia Cameron by Tel: 028 777 60311 or by email: patricia.cameron@limavdy.gov.uk
