Recycling Facts

  • Every household in the UK produces approximately one tonne of waste per annum.
  • Each year we throw away enough rubbish to cover the whole of Northern Ireland
  • Every fortnight we throw away enough rubbish to fill The Waterfront Hall
  • You produce 10 times your own body weight in rubbish each year

Useful Tips To Reduce

  • Choose items with minimum packaging
  • Avoid every day disposable items
  • Compost your garden and kitchen waste at home
  • Reduce the amount of junk mail you receive by registering with the Mailing Preference Service (MPS) on 0845 703 4599 or online at http://www.mpsonline.org.uk

Useful Tips To Reuse

  • Reuse plastic bags when buying groceries or alternatively purchase a “Bag for life”
  • Buy “Real Nappies” rather than disposables. Access the website http://www.wen.org.uk
  • Give your books, toys etc. to charity shops.  Also check out www.freecycle.org
  • Where possible repair old items rather than purchasing a new one

Useful Tips To Recycle

  • Make sure you are recycling all you can in your blue bin
  • Use the recycling facilities at the civic amenity and bring sites
  • Use the Green Garden Waste Bag to recycle your green waste at the CA site or purchase a home composter and do it yourself
  • Buy recycled products
