The River Roe and the Borough’s extensive coastline allow a range of canoeing to take place throughout the year.

The lower section of the River Roe offers flat water all year, with challenging white water in the middle section around Roe Valley Country Park in the winter months.  The river can be accessed in the Country Park (an activity permit can be obtained by the Countryside Centre) and at Swann’s Bridge which allows access to Lough Foyle through the Roe Estuary.

Lough Foyle is a broad shallow sea lough which allows for year round paddling whilst Benone Strand offers more challenging surf for the kayakers to play in the breaking waves.
