Facing into the North Atlantic, Benone Strand is one of the longest beaches in Ireland and forms part of the large Magilligan dune system.

As a Special Area of Conservation the site is of European importance and is a key outdoor recreation site for kiting, surfing and host of other activities. Magilligan is a "working" duneland system, which means that while users must remember that it is a conservation area, Council and other stakeholders try to manage it for the benefit of nature and people together.

You can find out more about the beach and duneland environments at Benone and Magilligan here.
