The Department for Social Development (“DSD”) in partnership with Limavady Borough Council appointed the RPS Group to prepare a Regeneration Master Plan for Limavady Town Centre.

The Master Plan, which has been prepared in partnership the Council and other stakeholders, will be non-statutory. A copy of the terms of reference which was issued for this work can be downloaded from this page on the right hand side.

A range of consultation has already happened by time of writing including statutory agencies, youth, community and business groups. The regeneration principles which were applied were as follows:

  • Restructuring & Redevelopment of the town;
  • the promotion of Retail & Residential investment in quality retail, business and residential activity;
  • the use of the Arts, Culture and Heritage traditions of Limavady to accelerate regeneration of the town centre;
  • the promotion of Limavady as a town that is committed to Learning and Enterprise as an evolving and continuous process;
  • the Improvement of the Environment To Attract Visitors to create a high quality, clean and safe environment with lively and attractive public places;
  • the improvement of Access & Movement to and within the town centre; and
  • the development of the Image & Marketing of the town centre as a focal point for the rich rural hinterland to residents as well as visitors.

This initiative has been completely funded by the Department of Social Development. For further information, please contact paul.beattie@limavady.gov.uk

Village Renewal

In addition, Limavady Borough is benefiting from substantial investment under the Rural Development Programme through a Village Renewal Measure. The villages of Gortnaghey, Burnfoot and Ballykelly have all been successful under this measure. Plans for village developments will be finalised in Autumn 2011.
